Bolama

Bolama is a town located on Bolama Island, which is part of the Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau. As the capital of the Bolama Region, it holds historical significance and is known for its serene landscapes, colonial architecture, and rich cultural heritage. The town was the first capital of Portuguese Guinea (now Guinea-Bissau) until the capital was moved to Bissau in 1941. One of the most notable features of Bolama is its colonial architecture, which offers a glimpse into its past as the administrative center during the Portuguese colonial period. Many of the buildings, though weathered by time, still stand and reflect the town's historical importance. These structures, including the old governor's palace and other administrative buildings, are significant for both their historical and architectural value.
